Cautions and Advisories

These thanks to our valiant pre-riders!

  • Burn-Area Runoff - "Runoff in fire-burnt areas can leave a sort of slick black mud on the pavement. I noticed it specifically on the way up Willow Creek Pass (last climb of 3rd day)."  Note that a section of this highway was closed earlier in the week to clear runoff-born debris.
  • Rock Fall - "Rock fall on the road was pretty common. One rider's tubeless tires did not survive this hazard. (Replaced and thrown away). That was on Poudre Canyon descent on last day, but be alert for rockfall throughout the route."
  • Poudre Canyon Road Work - Work crews are widening sections of Hwy. 14 in Poudre Canyon. You can expect alternating one-way traffic at one or more points. In some ways this is good, because cyclists will have protected transit through these zones, and it tends to bunch up traffic, so that you will encounter clusters of vehicles interspersed with no traffic.
  • Rabbit Ears Pass Road Work - Signs were posted on the Rabbit Ears Pass segment heading towards Steamboat Springs for road work to come. There may be single-lane traffic.
I will add these notes to the Event Procedures.
